Begin with one or two questions about explicit details, then ask what a character’s choice suggests or why an event caused another. Make sure an inference can be supported by evidence in the passage.
For multiple-choice questions, use answers that reflect likely misunderstandings, such as confusing two events or overlooking a qualifier. Avoid trick wording and options that are obviously shorter or sillier.
